
Villa Carlotta – Official Reopening 31 March 2022
A rare beauty, a place that literally leaves you breathless. Villa Carlotta is a historic residence built in 1690 and located on the western shore of Lake Como, more precisely in Tremezzo: one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Having become famous for the art exhibitions it has hosted over the years, Villa Carlotta is now known mainly for its prestigious botanical park, part of the Grandi Giardini Italiani network. Over 70,000 sqm of greenery which in spring offer a breathtaking sight!
Despite the difficulties due to the pandemic, 2021 was a very rich busy for Villa Carlotta: with exhibitions, events and visits to the botanical park, it recorded almost 100,000 visitors. The location of Villa Carlotta is also the perfect place from which to enjoy the views of the Grigne mountains and the Bellagio peninsula, located on the opposite shore of Lake Como, right in front of Tremezzo. Villa Carlotta offers a unique combination of art, culture and nature: this is why many tourists – and others – choose to visit it during their holidays on Lake Como.
New Season 2022 – What’s on at Villa Carlotta
The Villa Carlotta non-profit organization, which has managed the villa and gardens since 1927, has announced the reopening date of the Villa: Thursday 31 March 2022. The new season will be packed with events dedicated to nature, art and to the culture of the Como area, with the clear intention of immersing visitors in the welcoming and romantic atmosphere of Lake Como. The novelties of the 2022 season include:
- the new exhibition dedicated to Antonio Canova, to celebrate the Master of Italian Neoclassicism on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death. Villa Carlotta hosts several original works by the master (including the Penitent Magdalene) and some reproductions (such as Cupid and Psyche, by Adamo Tadolini), and will enrich the existing collection with digital and graphic supports created for the occasion.
- “Fiesta”, the Festival of Arts and Emotions prompted by the pianist Gloria Campaner and the Cultural Manager Alessandra Pellegrini, will begin in June 2022. A unique opportunity to unite artists and public at an exclusive event, at which exchanges of thoughts and meetings with the authors it enable the celebration of culture in any form.
- The campaign “Adopt a plant. Save beauty”, an initiative offering the public the opportunity to adopt one of the numerous plants in the park, in order to concretely support Villa Carlotta and the people who take care of the botanical park every day.
When to visit Villa Carlotta
If you are planning a trip to Lake Como between March and June 2022, a visit to the gardens of Villa Carlotta is an absolute must! In fact, this is the period in which to fully enjoy the spring blooms of the over 150 varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and roses in the park of Villa Carlotta and which make it one of the most popular destinations for the most experienced botanists and enthusiasts in the field. It will leave you breathless!
Villa Carlotta will be open continuously from 10.00 to 19.00 (ticket office closes at 18.00 and the museum at 18.30) from Monday to Sunday. You can reach Tremezzo, and Villa Carlotta, either by car or directly from the lake using the Lake Como navigation service: the Cadenabbia pier is only 800 meters from the Villa!
