Villa Saporiti la Rotonda

Villa Saporiti is situated on the western shore of Lake Como, among several other refined homes in the area, all built between the 18th and 19th centuries. Constructed between 1790 and 1793, this particular villa became immediately famous for its elegance, as well as for having hosted many important personalities, including Napoleon Bonaparte in 1797.
With a strong neoclassical character, this sumptuous villa still retains a number of elements typical of the 16th century Central European architecture, which contribute to softening its overall appearance.
This two story property is better known as “La Rotonda”, due to its imposing curved central body, spaced out with semi-columns and windows topped by medallions with pagan divinities. Inside the villa, in addition to the large elliptical central hall with vaulted ceiling, there is a large bisect stairway leading to the first floor, a small living room area with a mosaic floor inspired by classical Rome, the library, Corinthian columns and statues from the early 17th century. As a result, the austerity of the villa’s exterior is effectively balanced by the decorative richness of its interiors.
