And this must also be what the English billionaire thought – whose name is strictly top secret – who managed to rent the beautiful Villa Olmo from 15 June to 15 July 2022 to celebrate his wedding!
Wedding at Villa Olmo: English Tycoon rents the Villa for a Month
With personal assets of over $3 billion, fulfilling the request for “only” €1.3 million by the Municipality of Como for the rent of Villa Olmo must have been very easy. Thus the eighteenth-century halls of Villa Olmo will be the location for the wedding banquet, while the outdoor park will be the fairytale setting for the celebration of the wedding.
But that is not all: in front of the entrance of the villa, a 24 m long and 2 m wide floating dock will be located and become the floating stage hosting the performances of the special guests of the highest caliber and the fireworks crowning this tale. More than 400 guests are expected, arriving at the location both via land and via the lake.
The rent of one of the historical villas on Lake Como for more than 30 days has fueled several controversies in the city: the citizens of Como are divided between those who believe that the event will create international interest and consequently increase the number of tourists on the shores of the Lario, and those who consider it inappropriate to deny the community access to a cultural and historical heritage as that of Villa Olmo (whose gardens are in fact usually open to the public). Which of the two factions are right? For sure, the news caused a sensation and the number of requests for weddings on Lake Como has increased significantly.
Wedding with Lake View? Now you can rent one of the Streets of Menaggio!
The wedding to be celebrated at Villa Olmo in June is not the only fairytale wedding on Lake Como that has made headlines. Recently it has been reported that two weddings will take place in Menaggio on June 20 and 25. Nothing strange, except for the fact that for the first wedding the central Via Calvi will be rented, while a part of Piazza Garibaldi will be reserved for the second.
The spouses of the wedding to be held in via Calvi are a young Indian/Mexican couple, already known for having bought and renovated a prestigious property in Menaggio. Their wedding will be attended by 230 guests, most of whom will be staying at the Grand Hotel Victoria. The preparation of via Calvi hosting the wedding will start at 4 pm while the dinner will take place at 7.30 pm and end at midnight. During this time via Calvi will be closed to traffic, but the Mayor of Menaggio – Michele Spaggiari – has made clear that it will not be closed for pedestrians.
The couple getting married on June 25 has chosen Villa Balbianello for the ceremony, while the banquet for the150 guests will take place in Piazza Garibaldi. Mr Spaggiari assures that the two weddings will certainly be proof of the hospitality of Menaggio, increase the awareness of the town worldwide and serve as a forerunner for future requests for wedding celebrations.
