Liberty Villa: The excellence of Art Nouveau in Como
Art Nouveau villa with park located close to the center of Como and Lake Como, in 2014 elected the most beautiful lake in the world by the well-renowned blog “The Huffington Post.”
This property is adjacent to the Spina Verde park bordering with the morainic hills separating Italy from Switzerland.
The villa was commissioned by Cav. (Knight) Angelo Valli, entrepreneur of the Como silk industry, and built in the years 1919-1921 by architect Federico Frigerio famous primarily due to the Volta Temple, considered among the most important monuments of the city of Como, the Commercial Bank and other mansions in the city and on the shores of Lake Como. The architect Frigerio also supervised the renovation of the Cathedral and the main square of Como following a fire that in 1935 damaged the dome by Filippo Juvarra.
Inside the Villa
The villa, which is surrounded by a park of about 5000 sqm is set on 4 floors plus the tower, totalling approx.1,200 sqm.
In the basement there are a cellar, a laundry room, a studio apartment, a vault, a workshop as well as a boiler room, an elevator room and a beautiful limonaia.
On the ground floor the villa is accessed through a large atrium with the main staircase. The atrium gives access to the dining room with fireplace, the living room with fireplace, the kitchen and two bedrooms with two bathrooms. At this level there is also a good-sized porch.
The first floor is composed of a large kitchen leading to the terrace, a dining room, a living room with fireplace, three bedrooms, one of which is a large master bedroom, two bathrooms and a spacious terrace.
The second floor (attic) hosts a kitchen with dining room, a living room, a study, and two bedrooms. This floor gives access to the atelier in the tower from which a 360° panoramic view from the Alps to the Po valley can be admired.
In 1990 the building was completely renovated and an internal elevator connecting the 4 floors was installed.
The park in Art Nouveau style is adorned with stairs, parapets, fish pond with grotto and period concrete walls in excellent state of conservation.
In 2015 the driveway was completely redone with rainwater drainage pipes, gratings and electrical ducts for lighting of the park.
The property includes a two-story building, originally a horse stable, tool shed and barn, and a large swimming pool (approx. 12 x 10 m) built in the 1960s with reinforced concrete walls, which can easily be restored. Next to the pool there is a barbecue area and a small building that may be transformed into e.g. a dressing room or a sauna.
The architectural grandeur, its exceptional elegance, its dominant position, the surrounding park and the abundance of architectural details from the art nouveau period render this property truly unique and prestigious.
