Villa Olmo

Villa Olmo is a beautiful neoclassical villa located on the shore of Lake Como. Custom-designed by architect Simone Cantoni for a liberal and cultured noble-woman at a time when Lombardy was one of the most lively cultural regions in Europe, its aesthetic standards were inspired by the theories of the Age of Enlightenment.
The construction of Villa Olmo was begun at the end of the 1700’s and was completed in 1812. Today the villa is owned by the Municipality of Como and it regularly hosts many cultural events and art exhibitions.
The front of the villa, facing Lake Como, has a central part with columns and pilasters and an upper terrace with statues and two lateral wings.
The interior has a rich array of decorations: stuccoes, gildings, statues and frescoes by various artists from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
A small neoclassical temple and a stream are to be found in the park.
